After selling an equestrian estate in Wellington for $12 million, billionaire Frank McCourt is upgrading.
Records show the former Los Angeles Dodgers owner and horse enthusiast paid $20 million for the 40-acre property, known as Crab Orchard farm, at 13180 Southfields Road in Wellington.
The fully renovated equestrian estate features a lake, sand ring, 11 paddocks, a gazebo, trophy room, tack room and locker room. Diane Jenkins of Jenkins Realty was listing agent and Maria Mendelsohn of Douglas Elliman represented the buyer, Crab Orchard LLC.
Beverly and George Rawlings sold the property. Beverly is co-owner of the Rawlings Group, a healthcare financial services firm based in Kentucky. According to the website Virtual Globetrotters, she also owns the Crab Orchard Polo team, which won the U.S. Open in 2007 and 2010 at the nearby International Polo Club Palm Beach. Her husband George reportedly plays on the team.
The couple paid nearly $12 million for the equestrian facility in 2006. It also includes a 3,200-square-foot warehouse with a three-bedroom apartment, an owner’s apartment with a fireplace and custom kitchen, and two studio apartments, according to the listing.
Earlier this month, McCourt and his wife Monica McCourt sold the 5.2-acre equestrian property at 13808 Fairlane Court for $12 million.
The Boston developer, whose estimated net worth is $1.2 billion, is president of the McCourt Group and 50 percent owner of the equestrian show jumping series Global Champions Tour. He’s best known for owning the Dodgers from 2004 to when he sold the team in 2012 for $2.15 billion.
McCourt expanded his real estate holdings to New York City in 2013, when his firm paid $167 million for a development site on Manhattan’s Far West Side.
